About me:

Dr. Jordi Ripoll is associate professor at the Department of Computer Science, Applied Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Girona (UdG), where he is a member of the research project entitled “Mathematical modelling, Theoretical Biology and Population Dynamics” and the consolidated research group 2017-SGR-1392 (Partial differential equations and applications).

He received his Ph.D. degree in mathematical sciences from the University of Barcelona (UB) in 2005. His main interest is in population dynamics applied to ecology and epidemiology. He has worked on structured population dynamics, models for biological evolution, and epidemic models with the formalism of the complex networks (systems of many elements with a non-trivial pattern of connections).

The mathematical tools he uses are ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and partial differential equations (PDEs) (e.g. transport and reaction-diffusion equations) and also stochastic simulations when dealing with models of epidemic spreading.

He made a postdoctoral research stay at the University of Trento during 2006 and 2007, and he is co-author of several papers in international journals and conferences dealing with a wide range of topics: from bacteria in the intestine of an animal host, or failures in telecommunication networks, to metapopulations with diffusion of individuals among patches.

Lately he has focused on the computation of the famous Basic reproduction number (R_0) from the analytical and numerical points of view.

He has also acted as referee for several scientific journals and has been financed by successive research projects in public calls. On the other hand, he has taught a varied mathematical teaching since 1996 in three different universities in Spain: University of Girona (UdG), Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED-Barcelona and UNED-Girona) and Open University of Catalonia (UOC).
